Haikus for Advent

Just before the end of November, I was at a bit of low point, as always happens at this time of year and was wondering how I would be able to deal with the run up to Christmas. Then an idea came to me, I would do an Advent Calendar, based on my photographs. I would write and post a Haiku with accompanying photograph, one for each day of Advent.

Seaside Melancholy

My article reflects on the melancholy feeling that engulfs a seaside town during winter. With deserted streets and empty shelters, I have included excerpts from poetic works to emphasize the loneliness and desolation felt. I also touch upon the history and cultural significance of melancholy, while arguing that it is an essential part of the human condition, offering insight into our deepest hopes, fears, and a resurgence of hope after despair.
